II Peter 3:8 ” But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”

The Psalmist summed it up best…” For a thousand years in Your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.”  Our measly little brains cannot fathom the Lord’s timetable.  His view of passing time so far exceeds anything we can begin to imagine that we are left dumbfounded and befuddled .

II Peter 3:3 ” First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, ‘ Where is this coming He promised?’ “

The second coming of Christ…humans have tried to predict the exact time from the first century to today.  And along with all the forecasting,  has come the skeptics.  Those who jeer, mock, and sneer because it hasn’t taken place yet.  But  keep this in mind before you doubt that Jesus will back to earth – a promise is a promise…and God doesn’t go back on His Word.

I John 3:17 ” If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? “

We can become very jaded and indifferent towards all the appeals for money that bombard us daily.  Everyone seems to have a valid cause and concern that needs our contribution.  So what are we to do?  Ask the Lord to show you very plainly the things He wants you to give to…whether that be monetarily, materially, or of your time.  And if we all listen carefully to the Holy Spirit and heed His voice, no need will ever go unmet.

Psalm 119:95 “… I will ponder Your statutes.”

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I enjoy mindless tasks…a simple job that can be done almost automatically without little attention.  It’s those quiet times that the Lord can speak very clearly to my soul and allow me to reflect on Him.  In the middle of a mindless task –  today it’s shelling peas – He reminded me of my childhood days and the family garden.  Shelling a mountain of peas, or at least I thought it was a mountain of them, was a family affair.  My Grandmother and Great Aunt would come out to the farm to help.  Mom and Dad would get up early and pick, we would all congregate  under the large shade trees and the shelling would commence.  Conversation would start out lively, but soon talk slowed as we worked in companionable silence.  After what I thought was an eternity,  the peas were shelled and taken into the kitchen, while the kids gathered up all the pea shells and gave them to the pigs.  Ah, those lovely mindless tasks …  a time to ponder God and wonderful memories.

Proverbs 15:16 ” Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. “

With great riches, can come great drama.  But  the fear of the Lord offers none of that turmoil.  The world can chase after great fortunes…I’d much rather live a happy, content life in the Lord… minus the chaos.

I Timothy 1:15 ” Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of whom I am the worst.”

The longer I’m a Christian, the farther I want to distance myself from  the “old me”, and all that went along with it.  But the sinful me is still there…lurking under the surface.  I may not blatantly transgress, but I still mess up daily.  More times than not, it involves a lousy attitude, or  judging someone harshly under my breath.  I am a sinner saved only by grace, and like Paul…foremost among the offenders.

Galatians 1: 3-5 ” Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the Will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

The present evil age continues even today.  The world is teeming with wickedness, sorrow and pain, but despite everything,  the Lord’s good pleasure in carrying out His divine purpose is still moving forward.  This present evil age will continue…”But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (John 16:33)

Zephaniah 2:3 ” Seek the Lord all you humble of the land, you who do what He commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility…”

All Believers should be challenged by this verse to seek the Lord even more sincerely…even more seriously.  Do not waiver in the Lord…do not  become lukewarm in your zeal.  Don’t allow the brokenness of the world today  to cause you to become apathetic and indifferent in your pursuit of the Lord.  Instead, seek Him with all your heart, mind, and soul.
