II Peter 2:18-19 ” For they mouth empty, boastful words and by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity – for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.”

This group of degenerate false teachers were twisting Paul’s words in a very perverted way.  They took Paul’s Teaching in Romans 6:14-15 where he writes, as Christians we are no longer under the Law but under grace… and distorted it to persuade people that they were also free from the restraint of God’s moral Law.  Their prey of choice were brand new Christians not yet grounded in the faith and without foundational knowledge of the Word of God.  This still goes on today in many Progressive-type Churches where the Word is twisted to fit the current Social environment and world view.  But slavery is slavery just as corruption, immorality, and perversion have no place in God’s Church.  We all are slaves to something…it can be joyful slavery to God (Romans 6:18) or it can be slavery to sin, which leads only to death.
