Ezra 4:24 “Thus the work on the house of God in Jerusalem came to a standstill until the second year of the reign of King Darius of Persia.”

The foundation for the Temple had been laid when opposition caused progress to be halted in the rebuilding project…and it would be a long 16 years before work would resume. During those years do you think many of the Jewish exiles felt the Temple would never be rebuilt…and that it wasn’t just a setback but a failure? Looking across Scripture, we see that whenever the cause of God moves forward, it will encounter opposition, malice, harassment, and hostility. So for our part, we need to first realize that opposition follows obedience, and that we need to pray for God’s help in overcoming these challenges. For just because there’s a delay doesn’t mean it’s a defeat.
