The Puritan Preacher, Charles Spurgeon once wrote, “No doctrine in the whole Word of God has more excited the hatred of mankind than the truth of the absolute sovereignty of God.” As humans, we don’t like to be told what to do…and we surely don’t like someone bossing us around. All you have to do is look at a toddler and their independent resistance. That’s because ever since the Garden of Eden, mankind has opposed and defied the universal authority and supremacy of God…all the while refusing to admit that they have absolutely no control over the workings of the Sovereign Lord. Sadly, we’d rather deny God’s supremacy than accept it and obey…all to our detriment.
