As Believers, we are to be peacemakers, not people that delight in “getting even.” But in the world today as we’re confronted with hateful speech, political bias, and unfiltered harsh opinions…it’s hard to remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:44 when He said, “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” We know, retaliation is never the answer…(but it’s really counterintuitive to our basic human instincts that want revenge when attacked, demeaned, or disrespected.) But we’re called to a higher moral standard that can inspire others to do the same, or as Paul wrote in Romans 12:18, ” If it’s possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” In addition to that, I Peter 3:9 urges us to bless our enemies…returning conflict with kindness, love, and reconcilation…in hopes of modeling God’s grace to others.
