I Thessalonians 4: 11-12 ” Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

Whether we like it or not, how we conduct our day-to-day lives is on display for all to see. We can be either setting a good or bad example with our actions. But it’s not the repetitive drudgery we do that’s watched…rather, it’s how and in what attitude we do it.

Ezekiel 37:4 ” Then He said to me, Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord!’ “

Does your life feel like the Valley of Dry Bones?…like a dried-up and parched corpse left behind, while everyone else is moving forward? We gain life through God’s Word…His Word is breath into an otherwise dead body. Today, get into His Word and allow it to breathe life back into you.

Isaiah 1:13 “Stop bringing meaningless offerings!”

Have your conversations with the Lord become automatic and repetitive? Are your prayers the same words over and over again, to the point you can rattle them off without much thought or emotion? Meaningless babble to the Lord is as detestable as totally ignoring Him. Today, throw away the scripted and memorized prayers…for God longs to hear your heart…your needs and wishes in a loving conversation, not a manifesto.

Matthew 11: 28-30 ” Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

To be joined together with Jesus means that you know Him, and in knowing Him you understand His teachings and abide by them to the very best of your ability. To be united with Christ is about true freedom not bondage…it’s about liberation not slavery to sin.

Proverbs 24: 3-4 ” By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

When two people say “I do” the House is established…the family is started. And if they allow the Lord’s wisdom and understanding to flow within those walls…His purpose and plan for them will be accomplished, as they seek Him first.

I Thessalonians 3:9 ” How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?”

I truly do thank the Lord for each and every one of you that read this Daily Devotional. Because of you, I have the opportunity to not only spend quality time with the Lord, but then share what He’s given me to you. When you spend a few minutes reading God’s Word each day, it will color your entire day with His love, wisdom and compassion…and my joy will be complete. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you have blessed me beyond belief! God Bless!

Philippians 4:6 “…But in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Genuine gratitude…not because you have to…not because it’s expected of you…not because you feel you need to. Being grateful starts with what’s within your heart and spills out onto others…it’s not showy or pretentious…rather, it’s humble and pure, expressing thankfulness to your Lord and others.

I Corinthians 10:16 ” Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?”

Holy Communion is the ultimate expression of thankfulness for any Believer. Thank you Lord for dying in my place on that cross…Thank you for saving a wretched sinner such as I…Thank you for Your guidance and protection everyday…Thank you Lord for Your love.

Psalm 96:2 ” Let us come before Him with thanksgiving…”

Thankfulness…something you might not see a whole lot of…either from yourself, from others around you. In this hurried and self-absorbed world we have to consciously make a habit of being thankful…to our Creator and others. Try an experiment this week…practice thankfulness in every realm of your life and see if it doesn’t change your outlook on everything.

Having a child-like faith

Years ago the Doctor found a tennis-ball size mass in my lower abdomen during a routine physical. He wanted to do an ultrasound immediately, but I wanted to get prayed over first, so I scheduled it for the next week. The High school group at our church prayed for people every Sunday night, and I wanted those young kids and their unshakable faith to pray over me. That Sunday night I explained what the Doctor had found…and they were like, “No problem, our God is able!” Long story, short…the Ultrasound Tech could find nothing, and later that day the Doctor called me, scratching his head as to how that mass had disappeared…I knew!
