John 2:11 ” This, the first of His miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His Disciples put their faith in Him.”

It was done mostly in obscurity…off in the background at a wedding in progress.  Only a few people were even aware that the wine was gone.  They included a few servants and the disciples of Jesus that witnessed this miracle of changing something as basic as water into something  extraordinary as fine wine. Now the wedding party did benefit and were wonderfully blessed by His first miracle…but it was the people who actually saw it with their own eyes that were powerful and eternally changed by it.

I Samuel 25:25 ” May my lord pay no attention to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name, his name is Fool, and folly goes with him.”

David and his men were holed up in the Desert of Maon where a wealthy landowner with thousands of sheep and goats pastured his livestock…his name of Nabal.  He was married to a beautiful and intelligent woman named Abigail.  David and his men had protected Nabal’s shepherds and sheep…so when shearing started, his men had come with greetings, looking for favor…but instead, found insults being hurled at them by Nabal.  When David got wind of this, he gathered his men to launch an assault on the household.  Meanwhile, Abigail had been told of her husband’s faux pas and quickly intervened by packing up a large quantity of provisions,  and setting off to intercept David.  When their paths crossed, Abigail was able to very eloquently and diplomatically change David’s mind…and so halting the annihilation of her entire household.

Romans 9:16 “It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.”

No matter how we work and strive to live a perfect life…we’ll never come close.  For in Titus 3:5 it says, “He saved us not because of the righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy.”  God’s wonderful and unexplainable mercy is gifted to us before we are even aware of our need.  Malachi 1:2-3 states, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”  To further illustrate this profound concept, Jesus tells us in John 15:16, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you…”  The Lord’s compassion and kindness towards us  is beyond our  mental capacity…His desire to save us, beyond our comprehension.

I Chronicles 17:20 ” There is no one like You, O Lord, and there is no God but You, as we have heard with our ears.”

Maybe it’s hearing someone’s answer to pray…maybe it’s a praise report…or maybe it’s hearing that someone you’ve been praying for has finally come to know the Lord.  Whatever it is, joy and thanksgiving almost explodes from us as we listen to others praising and thanking our Heavenly Father.  Sharing God’s miraculous works  is so important to all of us.  For when we share…we all become encouraged and uplifted!

I Corinthians 1:9 ” God, Who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”

God is faithful…keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations. (Deuteronomy 7:9)  He is trustworthy, just, and true, unlike anyone else on this planet. For others will betray you…even those professing their love for you.  But God will never go back on His Word.  He can be trusted…so in turn, we can believe in Him.  And in that confidence,  springs hope. (Hebrews 10:23)

Proverbs 10:4 ” Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.”

Having been in Nursing Administration most of my life, I’ve interviewed and hired a lot of staff.  And the one thing I always looked for was a good work ethic. A first-rate candidate needed to be hardworking, thorough, and patient…while someone who seemed inconstant, lax, and careless would be looked over for the position.  Proverbs 12:24 tells us that, “Diligent hands will rule but laziness ends in slave labor.”  Developing a good work ethic will get you far, not only in your career, but your life.

II Corinthians 9:6 ” Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

It’s been amazing to watch the immense fields of corn and soybeans growing around us.  The farmers have planted the greatest amount they can in order to have the most abundant harvest possible.  Blessing others works the same way.  If we are open-handed with our generosity…we ourselves will be blessed in return.  For it says in Proverbs 11:25, “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Sow generously into the Kingdom of God with open hands and an open heart…for a man reaps what he sows.

Psalm 118:22-23 ” The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”

The story comes out of Matthew 21:42 where Jesus is quoting this Scripture to the chief priests and elders of the Temple…whom were not too happy about Him accusing them of rejecting the Messiah…namely Himself, Jesus.  Continuing in the next verse, Jesus countered with, “Therefore, I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.”  Jesus was offering the gift of salvation to Gentiles…building His Church from those willing to accept Him as Savior.  And as Believers in Christ, we are the Church.   To paraphrase Ephesians 2:20, We the Church, are  God’s people,  built on the foundation of all  martyred  apostles and prophets,  with Jesus being the chief cornerstone.

Luke 15:17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!’ “

This verse comes from the Parable of the prodigal son…a young man,  who after squandering his portion of his inheritance, found himself starving to death in the middle of a pigsty.  It was in those deplorable  conditions, that he finally came to himself…recovering his right mind, and realizing just how far he had wandered away.  Repentance is a change of mind…leading to a change of heart…which leads to a change of our actions.  Unfortunately for many of us,  Godly sorrow is only attained when we find ourselves in the middle of the pigsties of life.

Acts 4:29 ” Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak Your Word with great boldness.”

Telling others about Jesus should come easy for the Believer.  Declaring the Gospel to those we come in contact with should be as natural as asking, “How you doing today?”  So why do we freeze up when it comes to talking about our faith?  What exactly are we afraid of?  For there is no fear in the Gospel…only freedom.  So we should make the same request that the Apostle Paul made in Ephesians 6:19, “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel…”  Paul was confidently  relying on the Holy Spirit to give him the words to speak…he just had to open his mouth in obedience.
