Jesus was in the Synagogue on the Sabbath when He came upon a man with a shriveled, deformed hand. The questions He posed to the Pharisees were simple and to the point…what is more important – the Sabbath’s laws and rituals or human life? No wonder Jesus was so exasperated at their callous and insensitive silence. For all the Pharisees saw was the Law, while all Jesus saw was the suffering.

Isaiah 25:1 ” O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your Name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.”
Thanking God and being grateful should be an everyday occurrence for us. Thanking Him for the many blessing we see and experience…but as importantly, the many blessings we’re totally unaware of… Blessings of safety, security, and certainty in His love. Today, take a moment to thank the Lord for the many wonderful things in your life.
Romans 12:21 ” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
While Jesus walked this earth He had many enemies who hated and despised Him…but He never returned that anger with rage of His own. We need to look at His example daily as we deal with unlovable people around us. People may be hostile, but we don’t need to have hostility against them. We may be hated, but we don’t need to be hateful back. Anger will never be calmed by more anger.
Deuteronomy 4:24 ” For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
The Lord allows no rivals…He is the only One worthy of our worship. His protective intolerance towards idolatry is for our own good, but also realize, He will never tolerate glib lip-service of faux reverence. As Exodus 15:7 states, ” In the greatness of Your majesty You threw down those who opposed You. You unleashed Your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble.”
Zechariah 7: 9-10 ” This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.’ “
If you took all the “Red Letter” words in the gospels and rolled them together, it would sound like this scripture. Everything Jesus taught is described within these verses. Live your life with integrity, goodwill, and kindness towards all…do not persecute the downtrodden among you…keep your conscience clear of all wickedness.
I John 4:4 ” You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
God’s promise in this chaotic and ever frightening world reveals His Power to Believers. The Lord can’t isolate or insulate you from the troubles of this world, but in this scripture He promises you that He has overcome the world – and chiefly, the devil. And if He resides within…you also are a overcomer . For if God is your protector, who can be against you?
Proverbs 3:7 ” Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”
We think that we’re far too intelligent to fall for the schemes of the devil…or that we’re too clever to be pulled into a compromising situation. We blithely go so far as to dabble in the gray areas of sin, thinking we have the good judgment to stop any time we want. Being too wise in our own eyes can show just how foolish we really are.
Ephesians 4: 22-24 ” You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Our old self wants anything that’s forbidden, immoral, or unrighteous. It wants its way, and won’t take “No” for an answer when it comes to feeding those evil desires. But we are to discard that old self and put on the brand new self when we accept Jesus as our Savior…becoming a new creation, redeemed by His blood, and full of truth and goodness.
Matthew 26: 39 “…Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
I had a very insightful conversation with someone concerning a life decision . What they thought they were going to do with their life was suddenly turned upside down when God very emphatically said “No!” Wisely they sought out counsel, and this was the question posed to them…Was this something you, yourself wanted to do, and you were simply asking the Lord to bless it, rather than asking God for His Will in your life and what He wanted? Not my will, but Yours should be a important part of our prayers.
Exodus 23:20 ” See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to a place I have prepared.”
The Lord will go before you, directing your path, making ready and providing all that you need along the way. And as He guides you through this journey, He will always be watchful and protective of you…until you reach the final destination that He has lovely planned for you before the beginning of time.
