In the fourth Chapter of Luke, Jesus has come home to Nazareth for a visit and on the Sabbath goes to the Synagogue. There the scroll of the Prophet Isaiah is handed to Him and He reads this passage out loud. In doing so, He announces His mission and purpose here on earth. For as everyone waited for Him to speak, He said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” He honored not only His family, but His home town by officially starting His ministry in Nazareth.

Isaiah 30:15 ” This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.’ “
God really does know best, and always has our best interest in mind. But we sometimes think we know better. Exodus 14:14 is an excellent example of what the Lord is trying to tell us in the verse…”The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Our strength is derived from hope and obedience, not sheer force and brute determination.
Isaiah 13: 11 ” I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.”
The day of the Lord is coming, and with it, judgment. The proud will be brought low, the cruel will be stopped in their tracks. The Lord’s fierce anger and wrath will not be held back from the unrighteous. The day of the Lord is coming.
Isaiah 25:1 ” O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your Name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.”
Thanking God and being grateful should be an everyday occurrence for us. Thanking Him for the many blessing we see and experience…but as importantly, the many blessings we’re totally unaware of… Blessings of safety, security, and certainty in His love. Today, take a moment to thank the Lord for the many wonderful things in your life.
Isaiah 50:10 ” Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of His servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.”
The Lord can bring us out of darkness into the light of His truth. He will break off the chains that have bound us, and release us from the devil’s power. No more will we have to walk in darkness and fear, for our trust will now be in Him.
Isaiah 7:9 ” If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
Many have a cause they stand for…endangered animals, human rights abuse, the list is endless. You will hear emotional pleas full of compassion and conviction from motivated people willing to take a stand. So do we as Believers exhibit the same passions and principles when speaking of our faith and trust in Jesus? Are we willing to bear witness to His work in our life and share our testimony with others? If we won’t stand up for Jesus…what will we then depend on?
Isaiah 54:10 ” Though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken…”
The Lord’s kindness and mercy towards us doesn’t depend on our faithfulness…or lack there of. This unfailing love has nothing to do about us, but is rather central and key to God’s character. Our faithfulness may wax and wane, but God’s unfailing love towards us is everlasting.
Isaiah 40:26 ” Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?…”
Today, take a moment and go outside and look around you. All you see was created just for your viewing pleasure. That flower will probably be wilted tomorrow…the clouds will never appear the very same as they do today. God’s creative exuberance is on display for you…go out and take a look at what He’s made just for you.
Isaiah 35: 3 ” Strengthen your feeble hands…”
Fear will wrap up our arms, making them hang limp at our sides. We then become unable to help ourselves or others. When we are unable to work with our hands, we become unproductive and paltry. Thus fear keeps us from completing the all important work of the Lord that He’s planned for us.
Isaiah 64:1 ” Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before You! “
Almost everyday we learn of earthquakes around the world…or we hear about volcanoes erupting and spewing smoke far up into the atmosphere. But these all pale in comparison to the Lord’s mighty power…when the heavens will be torn apart as He descends to earth…” the mountains melting beneath Him.” (Micah 1:3)
