In anything you do today…Jesus goes before you. In this verse of the Old Testament, the usage of the Hebrew word for “head” in the phrase, “the Lord at their head”, was carried forward into the New Testament and applied to Jesus. He spoke of this in Luke 20:17 when He referred to Himself as,”the stone the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” And in Ephesians 2:20, Jesus is called the Chief cornerstone…the Head, and the One Who goes before us. Whatever barrier is holding you back today from being everything God desires for you…know that the Lord Jesus Christ has already gone before you…breaking open the way. Whatever the obstacle is that’s controlling you right now during this pandemic…fear, anxiety, doubt, anger, hopelessness…give it to the Lord and walk free.

II Timothy 2:19 “…God’s solid foundation stands firm.”
Don’t fool yourself…if your motive for serving the Lord is anything but pointing others to Jesus, you won’t succeed. For any Holy Spirit empowered ministry has to have at its basis the cornerstone of Christ. Without that origin, you are out there under your own power…with lopsided purpose and motives. So ask this of yourself…Is my outreach to others self-centered or selfless? Is it about Jesus, or about me? Then listen to that still small voice inside for direction.
Psalm 118:22-23 ” The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”
The story comes out of Matthew 21:42 where Jesus is quoting this Scripture to the chief priests and elders of the Temple…whom were not too happy about Him accusing them of rejecting the Messiah…namely Himself, Jesus. Continuing in the next verse, Jesus countered with, “Therefore, I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.” Jesus was offering the gift of salvation to Gentiles…building His Church from those willing to accept Him as Savior. And as Believers in Christ, we are the Church. To paraphrase Ephesians 2:20, We the Church, are God’s people, built on the foundation of all martyred apostles and prophets, with Jesus being the chief cornerstone.
