Ezekiel 14: 2-3 ” Then the word of the Lord came to me; ‘Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of Me at all ? “

Biblical writers used the term “idol” rather scornfully, denouncing them as “dead beams of wood.”  For anytime something is preventing us from seeing the truth and enticing us away from the one true God…it’s all death, decay, and darkness.

I Kings 11:4 ” As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.”

King Solomon had not followed the laws of God that commanded the Israelites not to intermarry with foreigners.  Of his 700 wives and 300 concubines, numerous were foreign women who worshiped many gods.  Instead of remaining fully committed and totally obedient…Solomon acquiesced and compromised his devotion to the Lord.

Jeremiah 10:5 ” Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.”

Just like the scarecrow you put up in the garden…” Man-made gods are no gods at all.” (Acts 19:26). That funny looking old scarecrow may fool the birds for a little while, but pretty soon they’re sitting on its shoulder and ignoring it’s purpose. Any god that man has made is worthless…it can’t move, walk or talk…it can’t do evil, but it has no real benefit either. The scarecrow hanging in the melon patch, as with any other man-made gods, will never save you from your sins, or love you unconditionally, or heal your body from disease. No, there is only one…and His name is Jesus.
