James 1: 2-4 ” Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

What exactly is perseverance, and how do we develop it through exercising our faith?  Perseverance is hope under pressure…its not allowing surrender or giving in to trials.  Perseverance is the purpose in which we reach the goal of spiritual maturity.

Psalm 41:2 “The Lord will protect him and preserve his life ; He will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.”

Intercessory prayer…pleading on the behalf of someone else takes discipline, perseverance, and determination. It can be exhausting and draining, but the reward is realized in this passage… the Lord’s Hand of protection… keeping ,blessing, and safeguarding that person you have interceded for.

II Thessalonians 3: 13 ” And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.”

Perseverance…to continue steadfastly, especially in something that is difficult or tedious. This verse exhorts us to not give in to trouble, or to become exasperated by difficulty. We are to persist…not losing heart and giving in to discouragement. As I’ve heard it said somewhere before…When you’re at the end of your rope…tie a big “God” shaped knot, and hang on!
