Isaiah 1:18 ” ‘Come now, let us reason together’, says the Lord, ‘though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.’ “

The Children of Israel had veered far off course…they had rebelled against God and were “off doing their own thing.”  Now God was calling them back…repent or face judgment…turn back to Me and  be forgiven.

Psalm 119: 130 ” The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”

After speaking at a Ladies Breakfast yesterday, I reflected on what I had gleaned from the experience.  Yes, I learn something every time I speak…for within all the preparation and presentation,  the Lord speaks to me also.  Insight into God’s word makes the simple wise, and I’m grasping after His truths daily.  Insight into His heart is like a rose slowly unfolding its petals…becoming more beautiful and precious every day.

Isaiah 25:1 ” O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.”

The steadfastness and certainty of the Lord can not be more apparent than knowing that what He has planned for us was decided long before this world began.  This is shown even more beautifully in Isaiah 14:24, “The Lord Almighty has sworn, ‘Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.’ ”  God and His Word does not change…nor will His purpose and plans for your life.

The Tomb’s still empty.

On that Resurrection Sunday they found the stone rolled away and the tomb where they had laid  Jesus  empty…and somehow we tend to forget the power it took for that miracle to happen.  We forget the magnitude of Jesus taking every sin ever committed by mankind on Himself.  We downplay the sacrifice He made for us while we were yet sinners.  So the next time you’re racked by fear and doubt…remember the tomb’s still empty.  When discouragement and anxiety try to take over your life…remember the tomb’s still empty.  When the world seems in turmoil and paranoia…remember the tomb’s still empty, and God’s still in control…and if you had been the only person on earth, Jesus would have died for you.

I John 2:16 ” For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world.”

The corrupt nature of man hasn’t change one bit from when this scripture was written to today…or for that matter…from when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.  Man’s means and manners on the most part involve fulfilling and satisfying those sinful needs and pleasures that can never be fully appeased.  Proverbs 27:20 tells us that our eyes are never satisfied.  The world is always searching for the next new thing…the next new entertainment …the next new indulgence…never to be satisfied by the status quo. There is only one thing that can fully satisfy that longing and that is  a relationship with the living Jesus.

Hosea 14:1 ” Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall.”

When we physically stumble and fall…we learn from it.  Walk slower, watch what we’re doing, look out for hazards.  But when we stumble and fall spiritually…do we grasp as readily the true consequences of our transgressions…or do we just continue with that downward spiral?

I Samuel 1:10 ” In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord.”

Hannah wasn’t just upset…she wasn’t just sad.  Hannah  was totally heartbroken  and in  anguish for  what she saw as insurmountable odds.  From  deep within her being she poured out her soul…pleading for God’s mercy.  And the Lord heard her and moved.  You may be feeling as hopeless as Hannah today, but remember,  God is listening to your prayer and He will move.

Isaiah 61:11 ” For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden cause seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”

Just as the warming soil causes things to germinate and bud, so the Lord causes His power to be shown before all the earth…His honor and glory on grand display for all to see.  For as the mystery of life is unveiled each Spring…God’s goodness and majesty is made evident  the world over.

Matthew 16:26 ” What good will it be for man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? “

In this  passage Jesus is being very blunt…we can’t work our way into heaven.  No amount of riches we’ve amassed will do…no worldly commodity, can be exchanged for the gift of salvation.

Matthew 16:24 ” Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.’ “

Jesus would ask you today…”Are you willing to give up yourself for Me?  Are you willing to put into proper priority all things and people in your life so I’m first?  Are you willing to endure the afflictions and trials of following Me and My teachings?  Are you willing to give up yourself…in order to find Me? “
