Psalm 96:10 ” Say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns.’ The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved…”

God’s activity in creating and ruling the world is seen throughout the Psalms.  “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it. (Psalm 24:1-2)  “The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad.” (Psalm 97:1)  “The Lord reigns, He is robed in majesty.” (Psalm 93:1)  The bottom line is…throughout this pandemic, you may think God has been absent, indifferent, or turning a blind eye to all the death and suffering…but He hasn’t.  God’s sovereign authority is still operating on our behalf and for our good.  For “the Lord works out everything for His own ends.” (Proverbs 16:4)  But how and why is He doing this?  As the Lord told Moses in Exodus 9:16, “for the purpose that I may show you My power and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”  So one thing we can be certain of today… is that God is still in control and ruling with grace and mercy.

John 1:38-39 ” They said, ‘Rabbi (which means teacher), where are You staying?’ ‘Come,’ He replied, ‘and you will see.’ “

“Come and see”…the Lord’s invitation still stands true for you today.  He beckons you to draw near and discover who He  really is.  He challenges you to put aside self and begin a quest for all things holy.  “Come and see” is His call to the depths of your soul to scrutinize, probe, and delve deeply into what it means to be a Believer…for in the end, old beliefs, falsehoods, and biases will be turned upside down in the light of His truth.    “Come and see.”

II Chronicles 20:15 “He said: ‘Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’ “

In so many struggles we can find ourselves totally defenseless…outmanned and outmaneuvered.  And as the fighting escalates, we are worn down and demoralized by the toll it takes on us…mentally, physically, and spiritually.   For when you are ill-equipped for battle…you have no chance.  Why then do we think we have to do all the fighting,  when God tells us He’s got our back?  Spiritual warfare is His specialty, not ours.  All He asks of us is to stand and watch Him work.  For in Psalm 91:7-8 says, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.  You will only observe with your eyes…”

Psalm 18:1 ” I love You, O Lord, my strength.”

I praise You Lord.  For when I am weak, You are my source of power.  When I am frail in mind and spirit, You support me and give me endurance.  When I feel feeble and ready to give up, You reinforce my backbone and give me toughness  to move ahead.  In Exodus 15:2 it says, “The Lord is my strength and my song.  He has become my salvation.”  I will make music in my heart, for You have given me victory on all sides.  Amen.

Psalm 107: 8-9 ” Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. “

We all need spiritual sustenance, because we all have a God-shaped hole inside that needs to be filled.  This inner hunger and thirst for God propels us forward in His Way and supports us in times of trials.  Life is sustained by food…but our spiritual life is nourished and maintained by the word of God.

Psalm 102: 26-27 “They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they will be discarded. But You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”

We live in a very disposable world.  There is nothing we own that will last forever…everything will eventually  be thrown away.  But as the Psalmist proclaims here, there is one thing that will last forever…and His name is the Lord Almighty.  For God’s reign is everlasting.  His throne is firmly  established in justice,  and He will reign without ceasing…for eternity.
