We all want the very best for our children. We also may want them to succeed in areas where we didn’t…like Sports. But just because that “mini-me” looks like you, doesn’t mean he has any desire to be the football , basketball, or baseball star you weren’t back in the day. Pushing kids into activities they aren’t excited about will only exasperate and infuriate everyone. Each one of our children are unique individuals, with God- designed gifts, talents, and passions. By building on their strengths, we can foster what the Lord wants for them, rather than what we’d like to live vicariously through them.

Matthew 8:20 ” Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head. “
Yes, in a sense, Jesus was homeless. He and the Disciples traveled unhindered by the obligation and responsibilities of traditional homes. But Jesus pointed out in this scripture… He was to be in the world, but not of it. And like Jesus, we too are aliens and strangers on this earth. (I Peter 2:11) We are ever looking forward to our eternal home…our everlasting dwelling place with the Lord in heaven.
John 10:29 ” My Father, Who has given them to Me is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”
God’s promise to Believers in this verse is not only one of protection and safe haven in the palm of His mighty hand, but the wonderful promise of eternal life spent in heaven. As Jesus stated in John 17:24, ” Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, and to see My glory…”
I Peter 2:25 ” For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and overseer of your soul.”
Why are we so prone to wander away from the loving protection of our Heavenly Father? Most times, it is pride or just plain stupidity that puts us in those unpleasant predicaments. But Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is ever there, watching and guarding His flock of wayward lambs.
Matthew 6:9 ” Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be your name.”
On this Father’s Day I wish all Dads a blessed day. And for those of you who might not have had the best Dad while growing up, or didn’t have a Father figure in your life at all…look towards you Heavenly Father for inspiration, love and compassion. When kids come from broken homes, many times they are hesitant about becoming parents, not wanting to make the same mistakes that their Mom and Dad did. Again, by looking to our Heavenly Father they can see the perfect example to emulate in their lives as parents.
Hebrews 1:3 ” The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word.”
Another beautiful word for radiance is effulgence…God’s splendor was emitted through Jesus, showing us a perfect expression of God’s Divine essence. In John this is spoken about…Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” And John wrote, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The Lord came to uphold all things by the strength of His spoken Word. Jesus was fully divine…and fully human, giving us just a glimpse at what our Heavenly Father was like.
