Matthew 8:1-3 ” When He came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed Him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before Him and said, ‘ Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man, ‘I am willing,’ He said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.”

“If You are willing.”  The man had been watching Jesus heal others.  His faith in the Messiah had grown with each person  he saw walk away cured and whole.  He had faith, but would Jesus be ready and able to heal him?  Jesus went beyond what He had to do to heal this man…He could of just spoken the word and he’d been healed.  But instead, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched the unclean man, and in doing so showed that he was a valued and loved human being.

II Peter 3:18 ” But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

But grow in grace and knowledge…what does that exactly mean to you?  Is your life a shining example of Christ’s love within?  Do you exhibit the same virtues and excellence you have on Sunday at Church as in the Board Room on Monday?  Does the holiness you strive for follow you everywhere, or just to certain places?  Growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord is a process…hopefully, an ongoing, ever-growing process…so that when people look at you…they just see Jesus.

Malachi 3:2 ” But who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiner’s fire or a launder’s soap.”

Evil will no longer be able to prevail here on earth on the great and dreadful day of the Lord.  All wickedness and darkness will be purged from His sight as the Lord comes in His Father’s glory.  In the blink of an eye,  all will be purified and cleansed.

Luke 6: 48-49 ” He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears My words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

What is your life built on?  Is it the bed-rock of Jesus, or something else?  When our purpose and source is the foundation of Christ no storm of life can move us…for we are firmly established in Him.

Galations 2:21 ” I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the Law, Christ died for nothing!”

To paraphrase in another area of Galations…Is the Law opposed to the promises of God?  Absolutely not!  The Law can’t impart life…only Jesus can give us the gift of eternal life.  The Law is just that…laws to live by, but only Jesus can save us from our sins.

Exodus 14:14 ” The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.”

Sitting still in silence, for many of us is quite a feat in and of itself to achieve.  We think we need to be constantly “doing something”.  But  God simply wants us to quietly watch as He does the battling on our behalf…because if you think about it, He really doesn’t need our help at all!

Galatians 4: 7 ” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.”

You are a child of God.  You are loved and cherished as a precious son or daughter.  And with that comes the right to be an heir, and joint heir with Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 1:3 ” The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.”

As so perfectly said by our Savior in John 14:9, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”  Jesus walked this earth as the magnificent shining of God’s glory and splendor for all to see…He was God with us, and the reality of God’s word come to life.

John 16:7 ” But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.”

The Comforter…the Encourager…the Holy Spirit.  Sent by Jesus to witness and glorify Him, and part of the Holy Trinity.  He is the Paraclete…the one who comes up along side and guides us in all truth.

II Timothy 1:5 ” I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

Paul was a “spiritual” father to Timothy, but it was at his mother’s knee as a toddler he truly learned about Jesus. (II Timothy 3:15)  It was the consistent teaching of both his grandmother and mother that established Timothy’s firm and confident belief in Jesus Christ and His Gospel…which gives all Christian women hope for their children regardless of the family dynamics.
