John 15:26 ” When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth Who goes out from the Father, He will testify about Me.”

Right before Jesus left this earth, He designated the Holy Spirit as the Paraclete…another of equal quality in His place.   The Holy Spirit is called a Paraclete because He undertakes Christ’s office here while Christ is away from the world.  Bearing witness to the absolute, ultimate, and saving  truth of Jesus, the Holy Spirit gently nudges us ever in the right direction.

John 16:7 ” But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.”

The Comforter…the Encourager…the Holy Spirit.  Sent by Jesus to witness and glorify Him, and part of the Holy Trinity.  He is the Paraclete…the one who comes up along side and guides us in all truth.

Acts 4:36 ” Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement)…”

Barnabas not only had the spiritual gift of encouragement, but the nickname also.  His mission and focus in life was to comfort and encourage others.  Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit as our Comforter…our Paraclete.  Someone who comes up along side as a intercessor, advocate, encourager, and exhorter.  To be a Barnabas, we need to be a Paraclete to others.
