Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.’ “

The verse written here was the fulfillment of prophecy first spoken by the prophet Isaiah, “The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)   Jesus was the embodiment of light and truth, and His message still rings true today…”Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.”

Colossians 1:6 ” All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.”

The Good News of Jesus is for everyone.  It needs to be scattered lavishly and with abandon across the face of the earth.  It needs to flow freely and without hindrance from the four walls of every Church… out to the hurting and lost world.  So why doesn’t it?  Why are we hoarding this treasure,  just allowing it to circle around and around the confines of  our Church rather than setting it free?  Jesus Christ did not tell us to keep the Gospel Message to ourselves…storing it away deep inside, letting no one else hear it.  No, quite the opposite, for in Mark 16:15  Jesus says, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”  The Good News of Jesus is too wonderful…too powerful…too prolific to just squander away.

Colossians 4:3 ” And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.”

Paul was chained up in a dark, dank prison in Rome with deplorable conditions…yet his concern was focused on proclaiming the Gospel.  So what’s my excuse?  What’s my justification for not telling others about Jesus?  How can I explain away the times I’ve had the opportunity…but didn’t speak?  God will open doors daily for us to tell others about the spiritual truths of the Gospel…we just need to be brave enough to walk through them.  I pray in the days ahead that all Believers  be endowed with a supernatural boldness to reach the lost for Jesus…times are getting short.

II Corinthians 6:14 ” Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? “

If you’ve ever seen oxen yoked together…you’ll see one thing quickly…they must move together as one.  The yoke forces them to move in the same direction, even if they don’t want to.  This hitch they are joined together by suddenly becomes a burden as they both pull in opposite directions.  When we are unequally yoked with unbelievers, it soon becomes a wrestling match of the wills…a match between light and darkness…truth and deceit…with no one winning.

Proverbs 24:14 ” Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”

Wisdom speaks only truth to your soul.  It will guide you on the right path, and fill you with hope.  And with wisdom comes future hope … that can never be destroyed.

Ephesians 1:17 ” I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.”

What’s motivating your thoughts and actions today?  Is it the Lord or something else?  Is the driving force behind what you think and do Godly or worldly?  When we are motivated by the desire to know God better, each day is a new discovery of divine knowledge…not just shown to us, but clarified and witnessed  by the Holy Spirit within.  And with that daily recognition of the truth, our motivation shifts from selfish to selfless.

II Corinthians 10:5 ” We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

When we’re going through a time of spiritual confusion…there are only two ways we can go.  We can argue or chose to obey.  We can spend our time trying to reason and debate our way out of the disconcertment in our life…or we can yield and submit  ourselves to the authority and supremacy of God.  You can’t think your way out of spiritual confusion…the only thing you can do is to obey what God places in front of you…step by step, day by day.  For Christ demands unquestioning obedience from us, even when the way is shadowed.

Matthew 6: 19-21 ” Do not store for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Ask yourself what you hold dear today.  What is it that’s precious and cherished in your life?  Is it sitting in the garage, or on your wrist, or proudly placed in your house for all to see?  Or are they intangible, incorruptible things that only come from a heart where the Holy Spirit abides?   Jesus tells us that if our priority is gathering up wealth and riches down here on earth…our heart will soon become a haunt of unclean lusts.  But if the things we value are Godly and right, we will have treasures in heaven that will never be exhausted. (Luke 12:34)

Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.”

Make Yourself known to me, Lord.  Instruct me in Your ways… for only You are the source of all truth.  As it says in Job 34:32, ” Teach me what I can not see.”  For my hope and my life is in You.        Amen.

Isaiah 9:2 ” The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Here Isaiah is foretelling God’s promise of sending His Son, Jesus, as a great light to all mankind.  As the darkness – the spiritual blindness increases…we as Believers must let the inner light of Jesus shine forth from us… And in doing so, allow  His truth to dispel the dark around us.
