God is love. The agape kind of unconditional love that says regardless of how many times I mess up, He’ll still love me. The agape kind of love that caused God to send His only Son to earth to die in my place for my sins. The agape kind of love, that if the Holy Spirit is in me, I will emulate it also.

Revelation 3:19 ” Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.”
House Rules…if you have children, you probably maintained order under your roof with these. With House Rules in place, you could admonish, educate, and guide your children in the right way…not as a tyrant, but as a loving parent wanting only the best for your kids. Our Heavenly Father wants only the very best for us…and sometimes He needs to use the same tactics. But if we sincerely and seriously undergo a moral reorientation of our soul ,acknowledging the error of our ways…and turn to God – those House Rules will suddenly make total sense.
Psalm 42:8 ” By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life.”
God oversees His kindness and mercy towards us daily. At night when the worries of the day keep us awake, remember that a hymn or prayer of praise and thankfulness to the Lord will comfort and give you rest. In that way, love flows to and from us continually.
Jeremiah 31:3 ” The Lord appeared to us in the past saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.’ “
Someone you know may be far from God. Maybe you’ve been praying for them for a long time and haven’t seen anything positive. Don’t give up! The Lord is still at work – drawing that person with cords of kindness and ties of love…ever wooing them towards salvation. For God takes great delight in them…calling them beloved of Him. Keep praying!
Isaiah 63:7 ” I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us – yes, the many good things He has done for the house of Israel, according to His compassion and many kindnesses.”
When was the last time you told someone what the Lord was doing in your life? We forget to share with each other the small miracles…the blessings…the small but good stuff. We’re really good about complaining…how about praising instead.
Psalm 73: 25-26 ” Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Elsewhere in Psalms it says, “You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing.” For to lose all things is to gain Christ. Our well-being …both mentally, physically, and spiritually is in the Lord and Him alone. And even when our bodies grow old and weak, He’s our strength.
Matthew 5: 38-39 ” You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
Jesus was quoting Leviticus 24:20 where the law stated that as a man had injured someone, so he was to be injured. But then, Jesus turned that law completely upside down by advocating loving your enemy and not repaying evil with evil…of doing good to those who hate you, and turning the cheek.
I John 2:15 ” Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
The world view of love is selfish…it focuses on greed, ambition, self-glory, and what I can get out of. In contrast, God’s love – agape love – is unconditional. It’s not depended on what you can do for me, or what I can get from you. Agape love can not be offended, it will never retaliate, it will never stop loving…for agape love is a decision, not a feeling.
Psalm 111:2 ” Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.”
I just came in from spending about 2 hours cleaning out the perennial flower bed that stretches across the front of the house. To me, Spring is hope and new life…and every time I pulled away dead leaves, my happiness grew. For underneath, peeking out, was fresh green life and the hope of beautiful flowers. The Lord’s miraculous works were on display for me to marvel in as I toiled in that flower bed…filling my heart to overflowing with joy and thankfulness.
Daniel 9:18 ” We do not make requests of You because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy.”
We are unfaithful…but He is ever faithful to us. We are mean-spirited and unfair to others…but He is always compassionate and gracious towards us. We are judgmental and unmerciful…but He is ever full of grace and loving kindness.
