From the start, Jesus proclaimed the need for repentance from sin. He made it plain in Luke 5:32 when He said, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” But over the course of time the requirement of repentance has softened…the need for moral reorientation of the soul passed over…and the command to turn away from unbelief and rebellion against God minimized. Again, we don’t want to offend, so we intentionally overlook or turn a blind eye from blatant sin in a person’s life, not calling a spade a spade and entreating them to repent and put their trust in Jesus. The Lord’s command of repentance has not changed and still remains the first step on the road to salvation and eternal life.
