Mark 8:27-29 ” Jesus and His disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way He asked them, ‘Who do people say I am?’ They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ He asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ.’ “

If the majority of the crowds that followed Jesus thought He was the re-carnation of someone else…why did His disciples believe differently? What did they have privy to that the others didn’t? Simon Peter summed it what when he replied to Jesus in John 6:69, “We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God.” Over the course of those three years, the Twelve disciples had learned much, they had experienced first-hand miracles and feats of great authority over evil, they had shared in encounters of unbelievable signs and wonders…and through it all, their faith and trust in Jesus grew…to the point that they fully believed He was who He professed. On our own journey with the Lord there’ll be times He’ll ask us the same question…”Who do you say I am?” And our answer will depend on whether we’ve been just a casual onlooker or a true disciple of His.
