Obadiah 11 ” On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.”

Even though there was no love lost between the Edomites and the Israelites, they were still in the Community of Believers together, not separate…and should have been looking out for each other. But instead, the Edomites gloated when the Babylonians captured the city of Jerusalem. The prophecy of God’s vengeance against Edom for their total lack of compassion towards their brothers can be found in Ezekiel 25:12-14. And you can almost hear God’s contempt for their despicable actions in Job 6:27, “You would even cast lots for the fatherless and barter away your friend.” When our brother or sister in the Lord is going through a rough time, we need to be right beside them encouraging…not standing afar with a smile of malicious delight on our face.
