Romans 7:7-8 ” I would not have known what coveting really was if the Law had not said, ‘Do not covet.’ But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire.”

The Hebrew word for covet refers to an intense, often unhealthy desire for something that belongs to another. It goes way beyond mere wanting…it implies envy, discontentment, and a greedy longing that often leads to harmful actions and the consequences that sadly follow. Coveting then, focuses more on our heart and thoughts not just on our actions. Matthew 5:28 & Hebrews 13:5 urges us to be content and grateful for what we have, rather than always being unsatisfied. For our rash, jealous actions often lead to maxed out credit cards, inability to pay our bills, resentment, and broken relationships.
