Proverbs 1:23 ” If you had responded to My rebuke, I would have poured out My heart to you and made My thoughts known to you.”

The Amplified Bible pens the above Scripture this way, ” If you will turn (repent) and give heed to My reproof, behold, I (Wisdom) will pour out My Spirit upon you.  I will make My words known to you.”  This admonishment then is two-pronged.  First, we must stop and agree with God we’re going down the wrong path.  Now our stubborn carnal nature will usually reject this idea at first…that’s because nobody likes to be told they’re wrong!  But it’s the second part of this Scripture that’s even more important.  For if we do turn back to God, He promises not only a renewed relationship with Him, but an outpouring of His Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding…that we may know Him more intimately.

Proverbs 17:24 ” A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”

Humans perceive through their senses.  But without good judgment constantly weighing how we feel to what’s morally right…we can easily go astray.  When we allow our feelings to overrule our understanding…we jump from one thing to another with no forethought – no discipline – simply doing what feels good at the moment.  But by having wisdom always in view, we will consider things through eyes of Godly insight and sensibility…not by fickle, momentary feelings.

Proverbs 16:16 ” How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! “

In this commercialized world where we are constantly bombarded by advertising telling us to “Buy! Buy! Buy!” … this verse stands  in stark contrast.  In fact, elsewhere in Proverbs, the author is even more emphatic when he writes , “Wisdom and understanding are more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.” (Proverbs 3:13-14)  So what he’s saying is that our choices have eternal consequences…that by choosing wisdom and understanding, they will yield better and lasting benefits…that material possessions are not what make us who we are…and by choosing wisdom and understanding over riches – the result will be a life marked by purpose, and peace…not things.
