Romans 12:1 ” Therefore I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.”

Paul was more than just encouraging his fellow Believers here…he was beseeching and imploring them to take that decisive and dedicated step called sanctification. Why?  When we first become a Christian we tend to hold on to parts of us that are comfortable, easy, or allow us to cope.  But as we journey along with the Lord, He starts to demand we separate ourselves from those things.  This process can be painful, but necessary for us to fully become God’s.  Holiness or sanctification is being totally His…with nothing withheld…and Paul recognized that this was not only God’s Will but the very least thing we could do in view of the Lord’s sacrifice for us. (I Corinthians 6:20)

I Corinthians 10:31 ” So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

We hope that we’re honoring God during the Church Service, or when we’re praying for someone in the hospital.  But this Scripture tells us that we need to be showing respect to God in everything we do.  For if you think about it…all aspects of our lives are ordained by His hand.  That includes the mundane and boring, and the simple day-to-day tasks we take for granted.  That’s because we never know when He’ll take a practical chore and turn it into a divinely assigned God moment.

II Chronicles 15:2 ” The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.”

James 4:8 tells us to, “Come near to God and He will come near to you.”  What does “coming near to God” look like though?  It starts with communing or fellowshiping with our Heavenly Father…and that means getting to know Him.  It’s similar to when you first started dating your spouse…you talked together endless hours, getting to know each other.  God wants us to know Him…and He wants us to trust Him.  But we have to know Him before we can trust Him…and that means reading His Word and praying.  God assures us that if we seek Him, we will find Him…for He’s longingly waiting for that opportunity to be known by us.

Hebrews 11:6 ” And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

When we’ve been betrayed by someone we love and trust…it takes a long time to let down our guard and trust again.  We want to trust, but we draw back in apprehension that we’ll just get hurt again.  It’s kind of like two porcupines dancing…desiring the companionship but afraid of the quills!  But when we put our faith in Jesus…when we draw near to Him, He draws near to us.  And in that coming near God, by prayer and cherished fellowship with Him, we are assured that God will never leave us or forsake us…for we learn He loves us with a never-ending love.
