Titus 3:1-2 ” Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.”

Titus was not only a preacher but a troubleshooter,,,particularly skilled in straightening out problems in the Churches in Corinth, Ephesus, and later Crete.  In these Churches he was met with great opposition and insubordination from opposing Jewish groups, but in this letter, Paul is reminding him that God is a God of order, and within that order is a chain of command of divinely placed people who are invested with power to rule.  It’s called authority, and the Church was called to submit to it.   As civil unrest and defiance continues to plague America, and the idea of yielding oneself to authority is considered a sign of weakness… what really caught my eye in these verses was the meaning of the word humility.  The Greek word here means a condition of the mind and heart which demonstrates gentleness, not in weakness but in power…in other words, in strength of character.  This true humility in submission to authority is getting angry at the right time, in the right measure, and for the right reason.

I Corinthians 14:33 ” For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.”

So, I’ll ask you this question today…When was the last time you were calm and totally at peace, without a care in the world?  For the vast majority of us, it’s been quite a while.  This Corona virus has managed to disrupt our routines, throw our home life into confusion, and leave us feeling like we have no control.  That’s because when disorder with all its turmoil and instability takes up residency either within us or our home…all peace fades away.   But there is a answer for this and His Name is Jesus…for the Gospel of Jesus Christ is called the Gospel of Peace.  Now it doesn’t mean you will never have to experience disorder in your life, but it does mean that by having a relationship with Jesus you can be set free from the distress brought about by it.

Colossians 3:18 ” Wives, submit to your husbands, as it is fitting in the Lord.”

To place in proper order…   Paul wasn’t teaching that women were inferior to men, quite the opposite.  In an age when women were downgraded and looked upon as mere property – Paul declared that in Christ there was no distinction in status between men and women (Gal. 3:28).  He had even called the married couple, Priscilla and Aquila,  by the same word…synergous – which meant “fellow workers.”  God is a God of order,  and by freely placing ourselves in submission in an orderly fashion under our husbands, we allow the blessings of the Lord to flow.
