Over the last 2,000 years things have changed in the world…but in many ways they have stayed the same. Satan’s presence on the earth is still very evident. He remains at work, deceiving with every kind of wickedness known to fallen man. But regardless of Satan’s reign here on earth, as Believers, we can confidently know that we will be delivered from the lurking clutches of the evil one.

Psalm 146: 1-2 ” Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”
Declare the goodness of the Lord. Exclaim His greatness, wonder, and glory. He is so worthy of our praise. Rejoice in all His wonderful blessings…those you are aware of, and those you are unmindful of. Glorify the Lord with your praises as long as you have breath in your body to do so. Praise the Lord from your innermost being…Praise His name!
I Timothy 4:8 ” For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
We all understand that routine exercise is good for us and has many physical advantages. But the virtue of godliness has far more benefits for the complete mind, body, and spirit. Godliness will not only bear fruit of contentment, peace, and confidence in this life… but promises the gracious gift of eternal life to come.
Joshua 3:15 ” Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing…”
Earlier, in verse 3, Joshua had instructed the people to move out and follow the priests with the ark of the covenant…” Then you’ll know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.” God will always go before us, preparing the way. He’ll never send you without first preparing not only you, but the path ahead. What He asks of you is to be willing to move out…take that first step…and get your feet wet.
Acts 9:40 ” Peter sent them all out of the room; then got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, ‘ Tabitha, get up.’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.”
Peter first got rid of all the worldly distractions. He then knelt down, putting his mind, body and spirit in right relationship with God. Finally, he poured out his heart to the Lord. He prayed boldly that God would raise this wonderful old saint from the dead…and it happened! He called her name, and she responded.
Psalm 91: 14-16 ” ‘Because he loves Me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliever him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.’ “
These last three verses of Psalm 91 are a culmination of all the preceding promises in this chapter. When we make Jesus our Lord, and trust Him in our lives, He will “honor those who honor Him.” (I Samuel 2:30) When our devotion is towards Him, God will hear us when we call, and rescue us from trouble. Finally, He will grant us eternal life and a final victory over death and the grave.
Psalm 91: 11-12 ” For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
These verses are so very powerful that Satan himself quoted them to Jesus in Luke 4:10-11 and Matthew 4:6. He knew that God commissions His Angels to protect and watch over His people…that they carry us in the hollow of their hands, safeguarding us from any fatal or disastrous blows from the enemy. Yes, Satan knows all about our Guardian Angels…but he can’t do anything about them, for they are under direct orders from God.
Psalm 91: 9-10 ” If you make the Most High your dwelling – even the Lord, Who is my refuge – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.”
When you have established the One True God as your dwelling place, you are in a position of safety and peace. And from that secure place, you, the righteous, are protected from calamity and suffering…for no harm will befall the righteous. (Proverbs 12:21)
Psalm 91: 7-8 ” A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.”
In this fallen world, there will be wars and rumors of wars…and many will be brought down violently at the hands of godless men. But you will only glimpse it from afar, for the evil will not come close… it will only retreat.
Psalm 91:5 ” You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day…”
Whether it be in darkness or light of day, the Lord is with you. His presence overshadows any panic that may befall you in the blackness of night. He watches over you during the day, deflecting the enemies’ fiery darts that may assail you. Do not fear…the Lord is with you.
