Ezekiel 33:31 ” My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice.”

In the passage of Ezekiel 33:21-33, Jerusalem has been set on fire and destroyed. All of the earlier prophecies about this from Ezekiel had been ignored. But now suddenly, the people have found his words to be very entertaining, and they listen…but continue to totally ignore the content. As God’s watchman, Ezekiel was given charge to warn the people of the need for repentance…but they treated his words as an amusing diversion, rather than a dire warning. We see this kind of warning to God’s people many places throughout the Old and New Testament…Isaiah 29:13, Matthew 15:8-9, Colossians 2:20-23. Which means it is just as important today. Each Believer must reflect upon their own personal responsibility, moral vigilance, and spiritual accountability in light of God’s Word…not merely listening to it, but putting it into practice.
