II Peter 3:9 ” The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

God is not hesitating out of uncertainty…it’s not from indecision either that He has held off judging the world.  No, it’s because of the Lord’s long-suffering grace and mercy that He delays the Judgment Day.   For in  I Timothy 2:4 it tells us, “God our Savior, Who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”   Our Lord wants no one to perish, but all to come to the saving reality of Jesus Christ…but neither will God wait forever.

Acts 8:36 ” As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?’ “

Philip, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, had found a Ethiopian eunuch traveling the road between Jerusalem and Gaza.  The eunuch was reading the book of Isaiah, but was perplexed, so Philip started with that scripture, (Isaiah 53:7-8) and explained to the eunuch the good news of Jesus.  Later as they traveled together, they came upon some water and it’s here the eunuch asks, “Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”  Now in some late manuscripts verse 37 is added which says, “Philip said, ‘If you believe with all your heart, you may.’  The eunuch answered, ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ ”  Baptism is the public demonstration of a personal decision…it symbolizes spiritual renewal, forgiveness of sins, adoption by God and eternal life.  If you are a Believer but have never been baptized…ask yourself the same question the eunuch did, “Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”

John 1:10 ” He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.”

I think as Believers,  we all smugly think that if we had lived during Biblical times and had witnessed the miracles and teachings of Jesus…we would of immediately realized He was the Messiah.  But would we?  Humanity saw Him as just another man…indeed, a good man who taught with unheard of authority and passion, but still just a flesh and blood human like the rest of us.  Would we have been  able to recognize  His divinity…when the incarnate Jesus Christ…the embodiment of God took on human form and lived among us?  I would hope and pray so.

Hebrews 9:12 ” He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.”

You have been redeemed!  Your debt of sin has been cleared off the books forever…your freedom purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ.  But Jesus didn’t have to die over and over a multitude of times to atone for your sins… rather, He came and gave His life once for all in order that you may have eternal life.  Yes, you have been redeemed!

Acts 4:12 ” Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

There’s no other name, but Jesus.  There’s no other way,  but through Him.  There’s no other person, thing or place that can give you eternal deliverance from God’s wrath and  hell.  I Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself as a ransom for all men -”  Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the price  for your sins… in order that you may have eternal life.  Yes, there’s no other name, but Jesus.

Luke 15:24 ” For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found…”

If you think about it…we’re all like the prodigal son.  We were all spiritually dead – separated from God the Father, with no hope of eternal life…when we were  made live again,  by the blood of Jesus Christ.  For we all had wandered away from our Heavenly Father,  just like the prodigal son…and just like the prodigal son, when we had come to our senses in the middle of that pig pen –  we realized we couldn’t make it on our own.  That’s when we returned.  We returned to a loving Father with outstretched arms, rushing to meet us and draw us to Him.

House Rules – If you sleep in it…make it.

Joshua 24:15 reads, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…”   Maybe you’ve heard the old saying, You’ve made your bed, now sleep in it.  Unfortunately, we all live with the consequences of  bad choices we’ve made in the past, for our days are filled with choices…some good, some not so good… but with the Lord’s guidance,  He can help us make the best choices for us.  Wise and good choices that will have eternal consequences.

Psalm 68:20 ” Our God is a God Who saves; from the sovereign Lord comes escape from death.”

The Lord saves us from what?  In a single word – condemnation.   John 3:18 tells us that from the womb we are condemned already…destined to Hell.  No amount of good works will ever save you.  Nor will you ever make it to Heaven on your believing Grandmother’s shirt-tails. But most strikingly, you will never be able to save yourself.   Only the Lord Jesus Christ can deliver you from the wrath that is to come.  Only He can offer you freedom from an eternal sentence of Hell.

Jeremiah 3:12 ” ‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord, ‘I will frown on you no longer, for I am merciful,’ declares the Lord, ‘I will not be angry forever. Only acknowledge your guilt.’ “

In God’s perfect plan,  not one  human-being would experience Hell and  eternal death.  But  He’s also not sitting up in heaven with a big sledge hammer,  relishing the thought of punishing sinners.  Quite the opposite, for in II Peter 3:9 it says, “The Lord is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”  Our Lord is graciously waiting for all to turn to Him…but we have to make the first move…not only admitting our sin, but accepting responsibility and confessing… we need You,  Lord.

John 10: 27-28 ” My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand.”

Elsewhere in John, Jesus proclaimed,”…that I shall lose none of all that He has given Me.”  We can not be deprived of eternal life.  We can not be plucked out of God’s hand.  Our salvation is secure…our soul redeemed.
