I John 1:9 ” If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Confession of our willful rebellion against God is always our decision. But there is such a thing called “Conviction of the Lord” that can change our wayward mind. Let’s look at Psalm 32:4-5 for a great illustration of this. Verse 4 says, ” For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.” If you’ve ever been weighed down by the heavy hand of the Lord in those feelings of divine conviction…you know exactly how the Psalmist David felt. There’s no way out except to acknowledge our sin, and take responsibility for our actions. Verse 5 continues, ” Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord – and You forgave the guilt of My sin.” God forgives our guilt because it’s the shame & guilt that will eat us alive… immobilizing and weakening our faith and more importantly, our walk with Him. Therefore, God uses conviction to bring about honest repentance, contrition, and remorse…which leads to His forgiveness & His very best plan for us.
